Is one of the ladies in Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' video actually a man?
Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' video
The rumor: One of the ladies dancing with Beyonce
in the immensely popular "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" video
is actually a dude.
The reality: "Single Ladies" has emerged as a major favorite of critics and fans,
who praise its simple style (just three dancers in leotards) and a mesmerizing
choreography that blends Bob Fosse moves with a jazzy dance club
style called J-setting.
But the Internet buzz is that the more muscular of the two backup dancers
is not a female, but is actually Beyonce's male choreographer JaQuel Knight.
There is no question that the lithe 19-year-old choreographer has the moves—
he choreographed the dance—and he bears an uncanny facial resemblance
to one of the dancers.
Plus, both backup dancers are wearing Adam's apple-hiding turtlenecks.
Knowles' publicist Yvette Noel-Schure insists that the dancer in question
is not Knight. Instead, she says, it's a woman named Ebony Williams
(the other is Ashley Everett).
"That's ridiculous,"
Noel-Schure said from her New York office.
"There are three women in the video: Beyonce and two dancers
who have been dancing with her for a while. ...
I know JaQuel and, although he's good-looking,
he could never look like those girls."
Or could he?
